Perseid Meteor Shower

A friend invited me to go stargazing sometime this month. I was wondering what so special about it since the invitation was set at the 12th August. Apparently July 17th till august 24th 2008 is the period where we could observe the famous Perseid meteor shower.

The Perseid meteor shower has been observed for about 2000 years, with the first known sighting from the middle east.

The peak of this meteor shower this year, is said to be on the 12th of August. I was told that one can observe dozens of "shooting stars" per hour on that day.

For those interested in doing their own stargazing, try looking up the sky at around 2am on the said date.

A good night to spend with loved one perhaps?

I've never caught a shooting star. It'll be romantic to catch it with a loved one.. :)

Saw it last year while camping. Had no idea what it was until later. It was incredible! I kept thinking how lucky I was to have seen so many shooting stars in one night!

What makes me wonder is why you have added a photo of a comet (concretely C/2001 Q4 Neat, if I'm not mistaken). It's slightly confusing - a meteor looks more like a line.
