Sun Kong Restaurant

Under a friends invitation, I went to the small village of Sauk (about 30 minutes drive off the town of Kuala Kangsar, Perak - its a small junction off the road leading to Gerik). This used to be quiet town which consist mostly of rubber estates has now turned to a heaven for freshwater fish eateries. The fish is mainly sourced from the lake formed by the Chenderoh Dam which has so far been abundant with large amount quality fish (I wonder for how long though).

I was there to sample a big catch that the restaurant owner recommended to a friend of mine. I was told that its a big "pak sou kung" or river catfish. A big catch i think would be an understatement. We were only served half of the fish head and it was enough to feed 9 of us (of course we also had other dish as well).

The catch was 12kg in weight! Apparently the restaurant was also featured in one of our local Chinese papers.

Actually the restaurant is indeed like a bungalow. The owner of the restaurant lives on the first floor.
